Very crisp patterning, sumi is superb. There is a different sort of imbalance, however. ...The rear half is classic alternating bold color patches, but the front half is too heavy, too contempory in relation to the back half and lack of motoguro stands out. The body is strong. Altogether a worthy Showa, and can overlook the imbalance.

If you're asking how would it do at a show, I wouldn't know...because creativity and uniqueness might have a low priority among traditionalist judges.

But if you're asking what someone would think seeing this showa swimming around in your pond, I would think it might be the first fish noticed, accompanied by a low WOW when you see that "geography of the world" map on its head!!!

Wink Can I come to your house???

I would love to come over just to drool in your pond someday . Another beautifully marked Showa. The colors are rich and crisp, the Sumi patterns are striking, and the body looks great throughout. Even the narrower sumi patterns have a thick laquer finish with nice clean edges. You have a wonderful eye for showa. I think 68bruin is right about the impact it would have in a pond. A real eye grabber.

It is an interesting fish and makes a powerful impression. The sumi looks to be of good quality, and the conformation looks good. But there is some weak and or stay beni about half way don the body, and no motoguro. The thing that gets me is it looks like it's got the head and shoulders of one fish and the body and fins of another. All in all I think it has some good attributes, but doesn't rise to level of many of your other showas (assuming this is your fish).

Nancy-

I would think you could get it at a good price as the pattern is very heavy. I think the Japanese recognize that and offer at good prices. I bought two heavy patterned nissai showa from Marudo in 2004 and I was very surprised when I was quoted the price. This fish reminds me of them.

Thumbs up

I love a showa like this. Very interesting to look at...really eye catching. I would put it in a show just to see how well it is received.

reminds me of a proper geisha, nice red lips and beautiful white hands...

getting back to the practical test of dividing into thirds from heads to tail it's a 3 colored marvel! each third passes the test.

truth of the matter is if the fish does it for you pattern wise.....that's what's important!
