Breeding soragoi

When a soragoi is crossed with an ochiba do the offspring resemble the basic soragoi phenotype (i.e. blue/grey body color) at an early age?

yes, they do.....the lighter shades will be the better ones but just as when you breed kohaku and sanke....some of the "kohaku" eventually grow sumi and the rusty brown of ochiba can creep in later as well. Many non ochiba types for sale are culls from an ochiba breedings, which may really skew the genetics already.

I breed a soragoi female to kohaku male this spring. Fry are all dark and about 1" long right now. I cant wait to see how they turn out.

Speaking of skewwed genetics, my Soragoi started developing brown in the armpits at age 3.

One of my Japanese Shiros started developing Hi at age 3. I call it a Shirowa now

Unfortunately my breeding was not selective, but may have been the female soragoi crossed with both a kohaku and gin rin ochiba (the fish most interested in the female). What I am curious about is how early in the fry's development does the soragoi appearance develop so that I can begin to cull?

My fry are 46 days old, and I dont see any difference in any of them. I would be able to cull multi-colored fry easily at this age. I'll try to get some pictures this weekend.
