Koi-Bito - How much would you pay?

I don't know how the maths stacks up right now and even this could be short of the mark but I for one would love to have the printed Koi-Bito keep going in some way. Perhaps to explore any remaining potential of this you could all actively consider the following:

If production were made a more realistic 3 issues per year/per subscription how much would people pay for that in print as before. Perhaps we could run a vote to give an indication to Brian of viability.

a. $60-$75
b. $75-$90
c. $90-$105
d. $105-$120

Note that is this were viable then any with current subscriptions under the old rates could either choose back-issues(if available), claim a refund or put the residual monies towards the new subscription.

I would pay a D band fee to keep it going. As it grew in memebrship perhaps the price would fall a little, or at least remain inflation free for a goodly time.

What do you all think?

Stuart

NB. If anyone would pay more then just say so!

JohnSmith, eh?!! Well, whatever name you need to go by to get you logged in here is fine. Missed your witty sarcasm and tongue lashings JR.

Now, on to the finer points of this discussion (I think). From what I have read on this post, it sounds like most agree that an e-mag would be more advertisment than information. It's information that we are all seeking, that's why we subscribe to KB. The articles are the best on the market without being commercial in nature and the advertising percentage is very low. I agree, I like that too! So, rather than providing an e-mag for "free", charge for the damn thing so you don't need to seek out advertisers. Include advertisement from those who pay for banner ads (as necessary)so everyone is happy!

Brian

just one suggestion: Provide one IN-DEPTH article monthly about a selected breeder. Show pics of several fish from his farm and have everyone grade them against how the breeder grades them. It helps peak individual interest, provides feedback from the breeder as to how his line develops and IT EDUCATES US ALL. Everybody wins, even the breeder, because we will be demanding a higher class of fish and be able to select them based on sound knowledge. Of course, this means the dealer will have to pony up and increase the caliber of what they import. Maybe then, the whole US will be on the same page when it comes to quality. Who knows, maybe then we could have a "national" show with very serious competition!!

Anyway, glad to hear your health is better. Which ever path you decide to take, know that most of us are behind you as we all share the common bond in one thing - NISHIKIGOI!!!

Regards

Mike

K-czr,
You've just pointed out a good reason the E-zine could be BETTER. The shots could be as large as the ones the judges look at in KoiUSA and NI. i get tired of looking at a 1x3inch pic and hearing the judge talk abou something that can't be seen in my itty bitty pic. an Ezine wouldn't be limited like a mag would be to length of article nor photos.

It is very interesting how many of you aren't able to think Brian could do a better job than any of the other mags have done...even though he has already proven at the same task ( magazine production) he excelled in the area of content?

IF Brian San can produce the same magazine, but in Email format, I won't complain and in fact will be forced to change my opinion. IF I then chose to print it at a higher expense to me than the actual mailed copy ( due to printing costs/cartridge of a color 50-60 page magazine ) I will still not complain. But if close associations with the former photographer/layout guy from Rinko rub off on 'our editor' as I know they know one another, I will be very disappointed. Not hostile mind you , as I can respect a business decision, but disappointed in that another one bites the dust.

I guess if it has to be an Ezine then so be it but the quality must be high and adverts few and far between which means subscription in my opinion, not free which will inevitably result in lots of ads or poorer content.

I guess I am just dissapointed that the one really good Koi magazine I subscribe too has gone belly up with just two issues in what promissed to build into a very worthwhile collection.
