Good thread tewa. If it bugs others maybe they need some pms meds. JR already posted here Luke, and a fine post it was.

Anyne else got some growth rates with shower systems or other things they would like to post? JR uses showers Luke, both bakki and others. How is the lake doing btw? Any more changes we can note?

Hi Steve

You are quite right this thread is not just about correlating fish growth to bakki showers, what is more important is about producing and maintaining good water quality for the fish to grow. This can be done using other filtraton setups, altering stocking density, volume of pond, providing good diet and most of all genetics.

For eg Mike T said his friend did it without a bakki in sight fair enough.

In this thread I shared what my pond setup was and how the fish developed over the season, I am not saying it cant be done with other systems or media. I also shared what another koi keeper in Australia who previously had a 20 ton pond with multi chambers had experience with bakki showers in a 1000L pond and a 10000L pond. Similar setups to my 6000L pond with heavy stocking like mine.

You are also probably aware that import of koi is ban in Australia, and it is with no joke that I comment that the genetics of koi in Australia are at the level they were at in japan some 35 to 45 years ago. Gosanke jumbos here are only in the 60's this will take a good 4 to 6 years to achieve. By the time they are in the 70s 9 out of ten of them have disfigured bodies or the skin quality has gone down the hill. The genetics of the koi are way behind compared to even the low to medium priced koi you get from japan. We have no large mud ponds here, the water is not as soft here and we have no heated facilities none at all. How fast koi will advance in Australia will never be as fast as how it did in japan 35 years ago, we just dont have as many breeders that have the facilities to do so.

End of the day what i am saying its not that easy to grow koi fast here in Australia and 9 out of ten koi that can grow fast will experience a loss in colour as the hi plate does not stretch as fast but that is not he fault of the system its the genentics. I am sure these growth rates exist here in Australia in other 6000 to 7000L ponds, I am just sharing how i did it in my pond.

Hong,
What are you talking? 16 months to grow to 45cm-50cm? That's a bit to long with bacteria house and bakki showers! Give me 6 months will do! Tosai from 20+cm reach almost 50cm within 6-8 months with bacteria house and bakki showers!

Hey Tai goh
16 months is the age of the koi, when I bought it at 4 months old only around 11 or 12 cm (some of them) 1 year on its 48.5cm that is with 6 month growing season and additional 2.5 months heated 1 ton pond. Remember its aussie koi not good genetic japanese koi

You forgot to mention you do that with a 10 ton pond and about 35 to 40 koi around 40 to 75cm

aquitori]Pretty good growth. Were these fish fed on Momotaro koi food too?

Aquitori yup these koi were fed with momotaro mix food, i do give them some prawns and tofu as a treat, some bread for them to have fun. Next season might try more sweet potato and fruits like orange and water melon.

Not Jr. But "Professor Jr". You know the Kid College professor that kept koi in a trash can in his room.

Funny thing happened on the way to the forum... You guys old enough to remember that line and where it came from

Anyway, Tewa posted a thread and here we go again, another long and drawn out thread on BacHouse Media... Paleeeeese.... Give it a rest...

You'd almost think that the guy was trying to promote and sell the stuff
Don't make me bring my CS thread back again

Hey Mike

no offense taken, there is not gonna be any fight i am just posting my system and development of my koi. Others can do it too with other filtratons, this is purely just my sharing of my system and another in australia, definitely not saying its the only way to do it . Yes I do sell the stuff but does it mean I cant post my fish growth

Most sellers still love their Koi and hope they see them grow
