Right. Quality Koi/Nisei Koi Farm is the who offered the insurance program on its tategoi tosai left with them to grow another year.

Got It

Now I remember, when I hear insurance, I tend to think of Worker's comp. or liability insurance, not Koi insurance. Thanks for the reminder. Sounds like a great idea.

McCann is trying to do some new things and also to bring some Japanese-inspired activities to the farm. He is going to try to have koi auctions at the farm, perhaps beginning this month. There has been a lot of promotion in Japan for Narita Koi Farm hosting auctions of particular breeders' fish. (Narita is more a dealer than a breeder.) It seems to be an increasingly popular hobby activity in Japan, and effective marketing tool with several well-known breeders participating in these auction events. Matsunoske had their on-line auction recently to reach outside Japan. The best marketing creates excitement and gives the consumer an opportunity to enjoy the process of purchasing as much as the purchase itself. It will be interesting to see if the concepts working in Japan can work in the U.S.

On-Line Auction

Nisei Koi Farm has begun an on-line auction starting today. There's some nice looking tosai, which the winner can either have shipped now or for a modest fee have spend the season in a mud pond to be harvested in the Fall. Those meeting the reserve price get the mud pond included. (An Asagi and Shusui are listed, Dick. Not a Kimiko, but won't see many like it anywhere. )

Those of us at the AKCA seminar got a slight advantage on the new auction. I am use to seeing Quality Koi come to a show/seminar with some medium grade Koi that Mat can use to talk about and teach attendees. Mat did not make it this year, but instead sent the farm hotties (Jen and Tara). When I walked up to their tank I had an immediate double take. On looking closer I was VERY impressed by the quality of the tosai in the tank. Jen and Tara then explained the auction. These beauties have some real potential. They are true tategoi and high quality. You will already notice my name on a few of them (unless I have already been outbid ). The Asagi is quite nice as well. If someone is looking for a nice Shusui, there was a very nice one in the bunch as well.

Only a day to go and the bidding has tapered off. There are some awfully good deals to be had on tosai that are truly "future fish".

Shhhh!!! You will make me have to pay more And if Mr. Kohaku thinks he will take those tosai for that amount, he is kidding himself.
