Hey Joe
Your aka Matsu is looking good. But I like your red pine Bonsai better. Frank and I just got a red pine a couple months ago, it is one of my favorites. I still want an azalea, Do you know were I can get one?

Nancy

To answer your question about Satsuki Azalea - yes, there is a grower/bonsai master in Sacramento that specializes in azalea bonsai. I have 3 of his trees and all are doing very well. Maybe some of us can get together at the Sacramento show and go see him. By the way, his name is Maruyama - quite a coincidence huh?!

Thanks Nancy!

The Aka Matsu is a Red Pine

The Aka Matsuba is Red Pind Cone.. Kinda similiar eh?

Mike is right.. Maruyama's is very nice nursery and have some very nice satsuki but you have many nearby..

The one satsuki to get would be the Tri Colored Satsuki (azalea)

I have a dozen satsuki's, about half I've allowed to bloom. I recommend Seiko
as the color variety to get started with...there is a book you should get by kennnedy from the UK that is very good. They are a lot of work. Next month will take me atleast 3 hrs to remove the dead blooms before they go to seed on my seiko alone!

You don't see that many Aka matsuba's around and they are really dramatic.

My Aka Matsu is my biggest bonsai, trunk of 5 1/2 inches and 32 inches tall.
It's a weeping variety...took two to replant it this spring.....

Dick, AKA matsu are very hard to find indeed.. The best part is they are soft needles so very easy to work with unlike black pines.

The similar pine to the aka matsu is the Monterey pine. Both are very soft and can easily mistaken for one.. A little easier for me to find since I live on the Monterey Bay...

Kyoshi Seike, my japanese garden sensae called and talked to me last wednesday. I haven't spoken to him in a decade. I worked 2 years for him under his instruction before he gave me the priviledge of maintaining his garden.I was reminded about how i treasured our time together

Red pine is soft and represents the feminine side....I have 4 around my pond with only two black pines. I'd rather work with the ladies then the sharp, sticking black....

hope we can get together in Portland in July, i was recently invited to bench and wrangle and am looking forward to this ZNA show. My Dearest friends Sharon and Dan from Spokane took the show last years with a matsunosuke sanke from toshio. Joe we need to get together and talk.....I sure encourage anyone who loves showing their koi to consider portland this year!

Dick, Pete asked me if I wanted a fish wrangler job as well. I am looking at plane tickets as I type.. So yes we will have to talk as well. If not in Portland I will be passing through Spokane area on my way to Jasper Canada.. Gonna do some flyfishing this summer..
