sequence pumps

hey guys, it seems that sequence pumps are really popular

I'm thinking about upgrading my submersible to a sequence pump. I have a few general questions which I hope you guys can help me out with.

a) how long are sequence power cords? would they run fine using an out door extension cord?

b) are they weather proof?

c) if i need to make a housing for the pump, do i need to keep the pump 100% dry? would some moisture destroy the pump?

d) how effective are the leaf traps/priming pots?

e) if i restrict the flow going OUT of the pump, would it do any long term harm?

thanks

6-7 feet.. I too lazy to measure mine but that is rough estimate

b) are they weather proof?

Yes they are weather proof but not waterproof. Meaning that this pump cannot be submerged in water. Althought I have seen some pumps that were under water at pskoi they were still working after all that..

c) if i need to make a housing for the pump, do i need to keep the pump 100% dry? would some moisture destroy the pump?

It doest hurt to keep it dry but this pump can with stand some rain..

d) how effective are the leaf traps/priming pots?
Use them cause if you dont the pump will clog up with algae leaves etc which in return will make your pump work harder and draw more power.

e) if i restrict the flow going OUT of the pump, would it do any long term harm?

Restricting the pump will not harm it but will make the motor work harder and draw more power. Its best to let the pump run free..

Hope this helps sorry I was too lazy to measure cord..

You can open the J-box and replace the cord with any length you like. Just get some 14/2 with ground SO cord and put a three-prong plug on one end. Sequence seems to be run by real humans and they may be willing to supply the pump with a longer cord.

I have a sequence that has run non-stop for six years - except those few hours that it was under water during a flood. The Aquatic Ecosystem high efficiency pump (the blue one) is a little cheaper with similar energy efficiency. My AE's are only a couple of years old though.

Some consider extension cords as tools for temporary use, but not acceptable for the long term. OSHA comes to mind here, but that's of no relevance. Things do corrode, things do get hit by lawn mowers, things do deteriorate in the sun, GFI's save lives.

i have a GFI outlet outside but it's too far from where i want to place an external pump. this is why i was asking how long the cord is for sequence pumps. I was planning to use and outdoor extension cord from the GFI outlet to the external pump.

if it isn't safe pls tell me, i'll have to figure out another way.

Long Cord

If you are going to run a long cord, it would be better to get a 12/2 extension cord from a construction supply house and hard wire it into the pump. You could go 100' this way. If you use 14/2 on a long run the wires will heat up more than they should.
