I have seen this as the signature of someone very respectable. Humility is teachability.

I also just encountered it in a trip to the dark side yesterday as part of a signature of someone who lacks teachability. He seemed to be wearing it like he thought it was a magic cloak.

If the question is really about the meaning of the English word, a dictionary will do. If the question is about a larger and more subjective meaning then I will say it means "Don't look to me and think I'm great. You think I know a lot, but I know I only know little and, like you, am lucky to have these fish and keep them alive."

Most of the folks on these boards with great knowledge use their energy to share knowledge and facilitate the growth of others' koi keeping skills and never waste it on agrandizing themselves.

Strange that I, Mr. Usually Insolent, am posting, after the Gentleman from Hakipu'u checked himself.

Good morning. I like the teachability angle Mickey. To me the essence of true humility of our true 'self ' is some kind of substance that has the ability to learn, to understand, to think, to reason, to experience and feel emotions. What components of the human psyche possess this substance and what happens when this entity of 'self ' erodes? Tough question to answer but it happens and it can happen to the best of us, some more than others.

If you would like to be a humble koi keeper then you can start by not posting with fake names.

you don't simply say that you're humble. humility is shown thru actions. I find no positive or negative connotation to humility. you either are or are not.

Hi JNorth, would you have told that to Marion Morrison's face if he were alive?

A humble koikeeper:

A. is one that shares everything he/she has with nothing asked in return.
B. enjoys the hobby for what he/she makes of it.
C. the learning process never stops for this type of person.
D. in this person's life family/friends come first then koi.

Maybe this is what a humble koikeeper is.
