New pond help

Hi all,

This is my first time doing a pond so I was hoping to get some ideas from the veterans. I'm planning a 20'L x 5'W x 3'D pond. Odd shape but that's about all I can get away with in my yard or else it would be bigger. I will probably use a Little Giant out of pond filter that is 24"H x14"Wx14"D in dimension and a 25Watt out of pond UV steralizer. I am looking for suggestions to "hide" these things around my pond so that it doesn't stand out too much. The discharge for the filter is at the top too, so I guess it might be kinda awkward with the hose starting up there and coming down into the pond. I don't plan on doing a waterfall persay. Probably just hide the discharge in the rocks at one end of the pond. The discharge from the UV will probably get routed to the other end of the pond. I am planning on using a 4000GPH pump with dual discharge for the filter and UV so they'll have separate hose. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Sorry if this is a lot of confusing information. Thanks, in advance.

Minh

First of all, Welcome to Koi-bito!

With those dimensions your pond will 2250 US gallons. If you went 4' deep you would be at 3000 US gallons. 4' is a better depth for koi then 3' and most will say 4' is the minimum depth you should have for koi. I think personally I would go with filter rated for 5000 gallons on the pond you are building. To hide the filter you could build a house for it or you could plant a wall of shrubs and put it behind it. Really depends on your layout. If its close to a raised deck you could put it under the deck. Do you have a picture of your yard? That might help.

Thanks, Jnorth. I'm traveling right now so I don't have any pictures. I am planning on putting in a deck but not anything high enough to hide the filter. I do like your idea with the wall...I remember watching a Japanese show and the houses have wood fences that are made out of wider wood planks, I guess...they look really nice...and they not all the same height, either. I think I will probably go with some thing like that to hide it...
