Question simple mud pond question...

for those that have their fish grown out in a mud pond...how is it identified? i figured there would be cases where a fish chanages so much that it may be difficult to tell it from the other residents

Mud pond fish are there for a reason.. Beacause its worthwhile for the breeder to keep them in there and watch them grow and change. Yes pics are taken the koi but think of it as the breeders kids.. He has seen them since day 1 and doesnt forget what it loos like, what it looks like now and what is may look like in the future.. Mud pond space is ery valuable and so are the customers who own them..

"The breeder knows who owns them when they pop out of the mud..."

photos help but in all my years around mud ponds, I've never seen one that was say all showas etc....if it had 20 koi in it only a couple of each color variety in it.
and yes a few change dramatically including going all white. It always works out......

I was referring to the owners of each koi growing them out not really the breeders although they may have the same problem with identifying certain ones after the grow out too.

LOL, Dick....What a picture: A pond with 20 jumbo tosai Showa each purchased for a high price to grow out. The 20 proud owners stand eagerly awaiting theirs to be placed in the little floating pool. Each has a photo in hand. The first 24-incher is placed in the pool. Everyone edges as close as they can to see, and eyes glance at the photo in hand .......and nobody claims it.

It doesn't happen, or there'd not be so many left in the mud by their owners.
