Unhappy Newbie Koi question #3434512

So I have a pond about 550 gallons. filter, pump, waterfall (small one). Temp is ranging from 59F to 64F in the last 7-10 days and getting warmer. I tested water and dont seem out the ordinary...

I bought 2 koi from petmart (about 6 inches long, about week ago) and they are nowhere to be seen (they hide under rocks or in folds of the liner) They are shy or something. I dont know how they will survive. I poke around in there just to see if they are alive and, yup, they are.

I bought 4 small goldfish and they look and act normal and like to nip at the food.

Whats with the Koi, will they ever get friendly or will they die. Are they scared of thier new enviroment?

I think new to the environment, you got to give them time to get use to the surroundings.

many times an older bigger koi will settle them out. Especially if you can find a hobbyist that has some he want to give away that didn't make the grade but that love to handfeed. the little guys respond by seeing how easy it is and soon loose their fear...(which mother nature gave them for a reason )

Well, poking around isnt gonna help one bit... These are your adopted kids now and they just gotta get used to the new room and the bacteria that lives in it..

You will have to learn them and they will have to learn you...

Patience in koi is usually top of the list when it comes to this hobby... If you rush it then you a free dessert of Humble Pie

Unhappy

I watch this pond almost obsessively, and seeing any Koi would have me grappling for a camera and yelling "Loch Ness montster!"

Anyway thanks for the advice guys. I will let you know if I they come out of thier shyness.

Hope they eat at night or something....

Red face

Ok, cool. Tonight I saw both Koi going up for food at Dusk at about 830-900 pm. So this must be the time they come out of thier shell and seek some chow....hmmm
