Creating two people groups will create two factions that will inevitably wind in jealousy, resentment, and a war. The offended(teased) parties will invariably go off and attack at other boards, leave koi chat rooms altogether, or start a 'better board with articles' etc etc. The war will rip this board apart given enuf time and the right ingredients. It will also create an exclusionary clubbish mentality with secret jokes, comments, and winks etc.
Many will perceive that as rich folks being snobby elitists and become offended. 90% of the folks in this hobby are middle to upper middle income folks with kids and family values. So that sort of thing won't go over well for very long. It can destroy the comradery needed to build a strong, unified community. Make the mag either free or ALL the articles and their content need subscribed to.
I think if done skillfully, the ad revenues could be plenty to run the site on, especially if the auction end kicks in strong and a % of that goes to the house. People are not very likely to pay to 'get to bid' on an auction. Having the articles free will motivate breeders to both advertise and make themselves available for in depth articles as they know it will reach many more people like that, giving them more public exposure and a better name. That is what drives ad revenues and gains a larger number of willing advertisers.
To be frank, the 'survival' of the mag has less to do with it's quality(which we all agree Brian has nailed), than with it being done in a manner that affords Brian and his family an acceptable lifestyle and future.
