The difference between the Nycon net and a Japanese wooden handle net.

The difference between the Nycon net and a Japanese wooden handle net. Anyone have both and could give us their opinions on which one is better than the other.

I have both, and there is no comparison. The Japanese are way ahead of the game when it comes to nets. The problem with the Matsuda nets is getting them here for a reasonable price.

I second that!! Pulled an ab muscle trying to get the fish to the ABAKS show. Just wish Matsuda nets weren't so expensive. Maybe we can bring the nets back and make our own handles here!??
What d'ya think??

I was trying to decide between the Nycon and the Matsuda a short time ago.
The Matsuda was so much more easy to manipulate in the water that it was a no-brainer.......BUT it was so much more expensive!!!! I wanted a 30cm net and the price difference was around $75 for a Nycon and over $300 for the Matsuda.
I then came across the EA net at Mystic Koi at a price of $175. It was perfectly priced for me. It has a "sealed" aluminum handle so that water cannot enter the handle and cause excess drag. The netting material is superior. In actual usage it was as easy to negotiate as a Japanese net.
Given its price point it was a great buy/value.
Just m/o.

Nycons suck but not b/c of the handle. Its the ring and/or netting material. I a have tried wooden poles on a nycon and it works no better than the pool handles. At least it will float if you drop it in with the wooden pole. I've tried the EA net back to back with a generic japanese imported one (not matsuda) and they seemed about equal (it was tested in a show bowl so not a great way, but resistance seemed similar).

Does the Matsuda net have an aluminium or a steel hoop? Is it solid or tubular?
Thanks,

The Matsuda has an aluminum hoop and it looks solid. Oh, I just threw out my Nycon.
