Sanke tosai ~ tategoi or not?

So I went to visit a local dealer today and found this sanke. It's tosai, 18 cm, Sadazo bloodline. What do you guys think...

If not too expensive, worth giving a try. From the photo, I would be concerned that the maruten is going to fade... it has the look of being thin/superficial. However, in person the Hi may seem better. Without the maruten, it loses its "punch".

To Me the word means the koi has a chance to become a GC when it gets to that size. i believe the pattern is such that it should do better as a young fish then when it gets older. I too am suspicious of the head pattern. There are a few young fish shows around that a GC is chosen at 18-20 inches.....at 27 to 29
I don''t think the prospects are as good

I don't think it's tategoi. If it was a showa, enough black could fill in the white areas to give balance but not with a sanke. The fish is small so it has some catching up to do and without body indicators for growth, it may only reach 24 inches.

Erwin

Head hi too small, tail joint (odomi) runs up into the tail. It IS a male also, so prospects for this fish are just why the Japanese breeder let it go. The word TATEGOI is getting way to overused these days - you won't see a tategoi this size leaving Japan unless the buyer was willing to part with some of his life savings!!LOL

I thought tategoi means 'keep fish'. How could it be tategoi if the breeder didn't keep it?

Tategoi is used incorrectly!

A Tategoi Koi is only a Koi that a breeder keeps. If it is a high quality Koi and a breeder lets it go, the correct termanology used would be Tateshita! Too many dealers use the phrase, "This is the breeders best Tategoi", to sell a fish. Once that fish leaves, it is no longer a Tategoi. The United States will probably never see true Tategoi. You have to go to Japan, and then know the right people to see one.
The idea of "Tategoi", when used in conjunction with buying a Koi with potential, means just that, the Koi has potential to develop more as it grows, but that DOES NOT make it a Tategoi.
