smoking pond - please help!

i was just out in my pond tonight and i noticed that the surface of my pond is emitting smoke! i actually noticed this two days ago but i thought it was from my cigarette smoke the fishes seem to be doing fine but there is a distinct foglike smoke coming from the surface all around.

Any help, suggestions, experience, etc is much appreciated!

tony,

the color of the smoke is clear. It was very distinct because i was using a flashlight as the electricity went out and was gonna turn on the generator. When i pointed the flashlight to the water i saw smoke coming out of the water

I dont really have a thermometer now but i would say that the temp now is approx 28 centigrade. Water temp is about the same.

Longlong,
It may just be vapors from evaporation if the "smoke" is clear. I see the same thing happening in my pond during early parts of the night or dawn in springtime or when the water temp is slightly higher than my air temp.

Lightbulb Created Fog.

You do get fog now, because your pond manufactures it when the temps are "just right". Basic mechanical/chemical engineering principle. Evapotranspiration takes place pretty much all day, but when the water temperature is slightly warmer then ambient the water vapor will cool just above the surface and re-condense as a result of "latent heat of evaporation", causing you to have your own private fog machine. If you had a thermometer sensitive enough you would find that the temperature at the fog/water transition point is 1deg cooler than the pond.

No pea soup or little cat's feet....but fog
or koi farts

Luke, how about a straight answer for this dude's question and concern? You just sound like your clowning him with your remarks!

But yes LL 1 degree difference will create fog!
