These beauties have really grown. The color development is less than impressive though. This one was checking out his sibling's new quarters.

Bombyx mori, Chinese silk moth, there are more but the most widely raised type from Asia is Bombyx. A one halph mile long silk thread makes the cacoon. Moth is bland white in color about 1.75 in. spread. Cacoon must be stifled after 6 days to prevent moth from hatching and destroying the silk. Because they have been bred domesticaly for years, the moths never fly, wings are essentially vestigial. Looking good Steve.

Spent sw pupae are collected in large quantities and used as a supplemental protein source for carp and chickens as a by-product of the silk industry.
