This was my first AKCA seminar, and I spent most of my time with the Koi Health Advisors and sitting in on lectures for Continuing Education credit. Usually the wet lab is a separate event, but this year it was held the Thursday prior to the general convention. I had a fabulous time hanging out with other koi junkies and putting faces to names. We didn't get much sleep. Steve Childers was there, and Art and Joe White, and Burt B as well as about a dozen KHA students from other boards. Roddy Conrad, Richard Carlson and Griff Thomasson (sp?) spoke on PP, saprolegnia and trickle filters, respectively.
I don't know what a normal speaker schedule is, but this one seemed a bit heavy on water gardening info and there were fewer vendors than at the MKPS annual trade show. The health-related talks were excellent, but I am a serious fish geek and could listen to Sandy Yosha or Dr. Tim for hours. Helen Roberts was another energetic speaker, and Doc Johnson gave a nice talk. I did play hooky and caught part of the koi judging seminar from photos, but missed the live koi portion

since Dr. Helen was doing an encore presentation of Surgery in Koi.
Walt and Lin from the local club took a group out for a fabulous dinner at the Senneca casino buffet and then across the border to see the falls from Canada Wednesday evening. It was a real treat. I have some photos, but with the low light levels, they don't do the Falls justice.
Next year the seminar will be held in Phoenix. I hope to be there!
