If you have a choice....

Here are two sanke and one showa tosai that my koi buddy got it at our ZNA NorCal club meeting last month...all are tosai from Sakai. If you have a choice to pick one, which one you pick? and the reason?

i'm not an expert but i would take the sanke on the right. I like the hi pattern and it looks like it has a large head. the sumi is a bit messy on the rear end and no sumi on the shoulder but it could change as it grows. its hard to judge the other sanke from this picture though.

these 3 are definitely NOT part of the grow out contest. they were purchased to save Russell from hauling them back to his shop.

I would pick the one on the right too even the body comfirmation is not very good. it's a little fat but I think it will grow out of it.

Considering what we all paid for the fish I think Russ was help us out. Tosai selection is not a proven science...Everyone has the basic concept, but applying it is a whole other type of beast.

Sanke on left - too bald, too male.

Showa - can't grow large with that head/body shape (but I'd like you hear your feelings on this aspect), probably female.

Sanke on right - bald but interesting, sumi mainly on beni and not balanced front to back, probably female, looks like it can really grow.

I would be proud of any of them, but would pick sanke on right.
