A

Because of the very nice shiroji and thick Beni. Also like the Kiwa and Sashi.

Is this a Maruyama Kohaku?

D has jumbo potential and very rich Beni. A's pattern is appealing and unique, but will it hold up?

Is it even fair to the other three to have D in there with them? D has a darker deeper shade of hi and clearly a bigger body then the other three. So I'll take D and wish that it had the pattern of A.

A stands out to me because it has a canvas. The body is good enough for me as it is farther away in photo. So A clean crisp shiroji bright canvas and future and perssimon hi. Also A looks like it has a youthful look..

To me D looks like a red tire tread..

This has been interesting to see the responses....because your question can be interpreted in different ways.....Since D has the body and quality many show types are drawn to it....but to compare simply pattern to pattern, A is most graphically pleasing.

So, are we looking at this kohaku for a pleasing pattern or one that will win in the shows.....

yesterday i helped a local dealer with an appreciation sale/grow out contest for their customers.I got to do the measuring..... They had maruyama kohakus....and sakai isawa. The Sakai were heavy patterns, the maruyamas very flowery....the sakai's disappeared at a 2 to 1 clip over the maruyama's which really surprised me...so i think what is being taught on the boards and at shows is making it's mark on consumers. ( the best one of the bunch was a smaller male maruyama and was not purchased) It could have gone in the local young fish show in August and placed...

I think Kohak A stands out. The balance of body conformation and overall quality sets it far apart from the rest.

Okay Kohak D is good, but it is a ways out until it can compete with Kohak A. Understanding the balance of it has to much pattern for that size canvas/conformation. Overall it might be a bigger fish, but in this case overall of Kohak A beats out Kohak D.

Hey Dick

I llike your take on this, but I have a question. The photo quality on A doesn't seem as good as the rest so I can't tell if it is pixelation or weakness in the hi plate edges. Do you think the beni/pattern on A will maintain or recede?
