Brutuscz: The pattern and look of Koi F has turned off a lot of folks. At first I did not find her pattern particularly appealing either, but I find it has become more attractive to my eye as time has gone by. What I find more distracting is her bulk. She is a bit too thick for my taste. However, I think it unfair to compare the "real life" photo of her posted above with the "professional" shots taken of other GCs for the official record and koi mags. In person, the top quality Shiro will have the vaguely "peachy" coloration you see in her photo above. In person, from a distance of a few feet, the Shiro would be gleaming white. Up close, you can see a watery color in each scale. This is normal. Note the white skin that lets the individual scales show so clearly. The camera is more true than the eye if you saw her in person. What I suggest should be the focus is her Beni....look at that red. Just as the camera is showing you the scales in greater highlight than your natural eye would see, it is showing every flaw in the Beni.....See a flaw?

This is an enormous fish of huge girth... blown up like a balloon. But, you'd never know that by just looking at the Beni.
I would like to see her Beni on a Kohaku with a more classic pattern, and a slightly less bulky shape, but that thick Beni does not appear on big koi very often.
