Talking My Three NEW Koi!!!!!

My three new koi are currently in quarantine...can't wait to see them in the pond!! The 16"showa(male) and 12" kujaku are both from Takahashi. The 12" Goshiki is from Genjiro. Opinions are appreciated...thats how we learn.

Smile Mho

Oh My! I believe…You do "have the eye."
This is my HO…As I am just a student myself:

Nice work on the Showa.
Nice skin, pretty body, color is rich (hope ‘it sticks’) and pattern is pleasant.
(Can almost ‘see’ where the sumi will be.) *hands clasped in prayer*
Motoguru…will it get better? Or pull back?

Goshiki…Right now, my new best variety...I’m learning more & more…..
Attractive. Nice shape, though a bit thin.
I like how the pattern of the Beni makes my eye wander all over his body.

The Kujaku is really pretty. Nice shape.
I see an impressive presence. * envision a gypsy-smilie looking into a crystal ball*
The only thing I don’t care for is the Beni covering the left eye.
If there was no Beni on the right eye, to me, it would be more balanced.

Over all....
If someone wanted to gift me with any one of them, well.......
We do have a few ‘mutts’ that we could part with.
It would be hard to do, but we could do it....
Seriously....
We can make room....
Seriously....

Personally, I tend to look at the shape of the head and nose.
I am partial to a ‘rounder look’. All three have a ‘pointier’ look to me.
I don’ know which is ‘right’, and which is ‘wrong.
Just my preference.

I like the pattern on the Showa, except for the head. My taste would be to have more white on the face and head. I think the Hi on the Goshiki is a little dirty, but it is young. The Kujaku shines, it is very clean.

The Goshiki appears to me to be one that will turn black, giving the "burning coal" effect. These can be beautiful while they last, but unfortunately the black tends to overwhelm the Hi, leaving a fish only its owner can love.

I am definitely hoping this will not happen. I always liked sanke from genjiro...I was hoping their goshiki would improve with time. I was particulary impressed with the pattern on this one..very interesting design.

with the showa...I simply thought, buy for the red and gamble on the black. The strange thing is this showa has outstandingly thick conformation to see live. In my photo..it seems thin. Not sure why...I'm not really capturing how impressive this male appears. The kujaku looks much more photogenic. The thing this photo doesn't show are how awesome the pectoral fins appear. The are bright white and are very wide...so they seem to billow like a sail. This one was really my eye catcher. Kujaku are one of my favorite types of koi.
