New Kohaku

Well, here is my latest kohaku and the completion of the trio of kohaks that I wanted for my pond. 8" tosai...shall we call it an inazuma pattern? Comments and constructive criticisms welcome and appreciated.



I have two slots left to fill for this pond, and those will be tosai or naisai soragoi and ochiba shigure as nice as I can find and afford. Next year, another pond and split the school for more growout room.

What gives you the impression that you have "two slots" to fill in your pond. How many gallons is your current pond and how many fish do you have? How big is your new pond going to be - larger or same size as the current one? Inquiring minds would like to know!!LOL

...my pond is 18' x 7' x 4' deep, somwhere around 3500 gallons, with a fresh water flow through system off my well. It should easily support up to 12 koi the size that mine are (5-12") just fine until next year. I have 6 koi in the pond right now (and very temporarily my 5 breeder sarrassas as I remodel their pond):





I plan to dig a 5000 gallon pond next year, along with an above ground show pond, but the biggie first.

Here is my critique....The Kohak has a nice body, I can project the body to be more spindle thancigar shaped. The shiroji is clean with no staining on the head or your tint yellow head some might say. This one step pattern is okay, I wouldnt say inazuma, because it isnt. Overall quality of this Kohak is very good the depth of the beni is good and consistant from head to end of odome.

What then is your definition of an "Inazuma" pattern??

This would be omoyo or heavy one step. Inazuma pattern zig zags it's way from the head to the tail. "Inazuma" or lighting bolt pattern is not what this Kohak has, it has a zig and no zag.

True, it doesn't look erratically electrified like some izamuna patterns I've seen. Maybe it should be called the "wag" or "wave" pattern.

I'll take a new directly overhead pic when she gets here tomorrow. Same with the "Bob" kohak... *chortle*

As it grows, you may find the pattern becomes more dorsal in orientation. Then, it will be seen as inazuma.

I've been trying to envision that very thing, Mike. *S* Projecting forward to a bigger koi with buffer shoulders, a bigger head, a longer more fleshed out body. I know that the hi plate will not grow any wider, but how about lengthwise? Will it lengthen but still stay proportional in relation to the length of the koi? Hmmm...that doesn't look worded right, so I hope that you understand what I'm asking. I know it won't lengthen down the tail-tube and give the fish a new and improved odome. But will it lengthen in proportion to the koi's size?
