Utsuri spawn continued

This utsuri spawn has been a real challenge. So far it has been a very low yield for ustsuris with any kind of a pattern. Still have many thousands in huge pond. The majority of them are a solid blueish grey(underlying sumi) and something that I would normally
move down the road at this stage and have by the vat fulls. However, I brought a good handfull home early on to watch them,
and for the first time was able to witness the development of the fry from this particular pairing. Pretty interesting.............

Stage one....Solid blueish grey

Stage two

And this is where they are at presently

I am new to the board and I really enjoy your posts with the spawn. Great pictures. I love to see the little fry develop. To me, they're awesome at that stage. So small and full of hope I guess. Hope you continue to share them.

Smile Great wonderfully clear pics!

Hi Kiefer,

Would you happen to have any pics of the parent stock so we can see what the fry came from? You've got some real pretty babies in there--are all of those from the same spawn?

Thank you for sharing!

Marie

Hello Marie

I had some.......somewhere.......will try and take some pics this weekend if they cooperate. Both are from Omo stock. There are offspring from three different spawns in the tank at home. I always try and bring a scoop from each spawn home from the farm so that I can watch them develop.

Talking

It's fascinating to watch the iddy biddies grow and change. I haven't had the opportunity yet to watch koi develop from fry, but it was amazing to watch my first sarrassa spawn change from the black, gold or white little wigglies into bright red, red and white, and tancho patterned fish. The fry were so different looking from their parents on first discovery (surprise! we spawned!) that I wondered what they were and totally mystified on where they came from. *LOL*

Boosting the learning curve

I always enjoy your fry threads because watching the progress is as educational as entertaining.
Our spawning from last year produced some utsuri fry with the same blue/grey submerged look you've got there, and culling for us was pretty much a crapshoot guessing game (rookies donchaknow ). We kept a variety of different "looks" just to see what would become of them as they grew.
Most are mutts, some have turned out fair, but a few hold promise, but then again we weren't starting out with the kind of parent stock you are either.
Just guessing based on our very limited home ovservation you've got several with real promise, just such a long slog of close observation and carefull culling ahead.
