I think it could very well be a democracy soon. NO, I do not think Raul can hold the people in captivity to communist dictatorship like Fidel has. From what I have gathered about Cuba and it's people, the vast majority of them do not support 'the revolution' and would prefer democracy by about 10 to 1. However, the ones supporting it get plenty of resources and oppurtunity to voice those opinions, so to the outside world it can easily be made to look as though they are a majority, which is inaccurate. I think most cubans want what all of us want, and realize by now Fidel's ideas were nuts and will never work in the real world.
The island here is loaded with professionals like doctors etc who left there and badly want it to become a democracy. When Fidel is finally dead or ousted it can get free if the international community hears it's pleas for help and puts Raul where he belongs.
In July our temps the last couple years averaged 100-120. This year it's 80-95. Big change. The tradewinds are nice, especially up here in the mountains.
I have a family member who is moving out to Lares this month to keep an eye on some things and do some water treament, and take aid over to cubans. I will ask him what he thinks as he goes there often for that reason.
