I have no problem catching my Koi even with the 8' depth. It usually only takes me about 30 seconds to have the one I want netted and bowled (big girls move much slower than tosai). The problem comes with lifting the box with a 32" Koi in it. The Koi and the amount of water required pushes 80lbs, which in itself is not hard to lift, but the size of the box makes it difficult for one person. I worked it out so I only have to lift the boxes once; to get them in the car. If the Koi get much bigger I will be building a ramp. Either that or I will be looking for a hydraulic lift
Since I am judging the October young show, I was not looking to display any of the big girls this year. As soon as Koi start to arrive, I will need to stay away from the show ring. I wouldn't want anybody to think the judge was influenced by who owned a Koi
