Need help !!! Air Blader Infection?

Folks,

Posting this for a good friend. Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Day 1 (August 9): In the morning the kohaku was not
not feeding and stay mostly motionless on or near the
bottom. Once a while she started to swim around a bit
and return to her favorite spot. She came up and ate
vigorously at noon and evening feeding, then settled
at the same spot.

Day 2: She moved around and lurked at the food then
settled at the bottom again during the morning feed.

All the other koi are healthy and very active. The
water quality is fine and 72F with good aeration. I am
planning to tub her later to examine for gill, ulcer
or unusual signs. My suspection of air blader
infection or interal problem ... if that is the case
how what is the best treatment for her?

Thanks

Do you mean swim bladder??
If it is swim bladder, you would see her staying on the bottom alot, and when she comes up she would come up stuggling quickly from what I have seen, I also recall that the fish releases alot of air bubbles, when she comes to surface. From my understanding there is nothing that can be done, short of surgery, which I don't think there has ever been a succesful outcome.

when I read part of the title I thouht it was about an air pump.. LOL

Also recently Tony's air pump gave out and I thought you were trying to help him out..

I have never heard of it reversing.. I had a heron years back puncture the swim bladder and the fish could not swim.. Did come up and eat but sank back down after that. Needless to say I put her to sleep.. Big dose of Clove oil bagged her.. Placed in freezer and went to mow the lawn..

Reuben had a fish like what Dinh is talking about, I think it is swimming with last years Young Champion from Camellia now in a big pond we call the "Mud Pond"....where it is free to swim with the ducks and herons.

Dinh, there is now cure for it that I have seen...

A "swim bladder" and an "air bladder" are one in the same organ. It regulates the koi's equilibrium and allows it to inflate it or deflate it on demand for bouyancy.

Dinh, if this fish keeps sinking to the bottom, chances are it's "bladder" can no longer regulate it's equilibrium. The kindest thing to do is to euthanize it so it doesn't suffer anymore. As Joe put it, some clove oil in the tub til the fish goes to sleep and then bag it and put it in the freezer til the sanitation engineers can pick it up.

Thank you Mike,
I did not realize, that it was the same organ. Since from my understanding the only bladder they have is a swim bladder.. I must be an airhead. LOL
