$400,000 sounds high for a pond, but you really don't get much for $400,000 anymore.

the cost of building materials is really up over the last few years. most houses are a standard type of construction which means lots of people know how to build them and that keeps the cost down. a koi pond is like a specialty item, very few know how to design and build one properly, consequently the cost is much higher than a standard project like a home or garage.

and the design can be challenging. a pool designed to look attractive and be a good home for fish, a filter system that is sized for the pond and easy to maintain, all the plumbing and electrical to go with it. many trades involed and someone to coordinate them equals a big price tag.

yes, $400,000 may sound high, but it could be a fair price depending on the size and complexity.

If I had $400k to spend on a pond, I'd buy land in the redwoods with natural springs and build some killer terraced mud ponds.

Brian,

Should have given him a red shirt like they do in the Star Trek series instead of a yellow card...that's a sure sign that a person's demise is imminent in each episode, though in this case, more like a person's days are numbered on the board. *L*

I had always thought this was the ultimate pond, well at least the best one I have ever seen. I shot this video in Malaysia at the Sentul Koi Center. I think $400,000 could get you one of these, if you had the room for it.

Nice pond, but I don't think $400,000 will get you that pond.. It does not appear to be leaking
