All of us are gifted in different ways. In this busy world where no one seems to have enought time to devote to anything, It's encouraging to know that there are Koi Kichi's out there that think about what and how they can make a difference within the hobby we all love.
There is something spiritual about koi keeping. Part of it is the deep dedication and sole responsibility it takes towards making our koi's lives richer and better. Along the way we run across some really special people that are a priviledge to get to know and call "friend". These relationships are a two way street where we can give as well as receive. This part has really helped me to " recharge my battery "...but ultimately....
In the quiet moments pool side when all is well within this tiny created world, there is a peace that comes with the knowledge that the Creator can and does restoreth our souls.. and that peace on earth ,goodwill towards all men ; is ultimately what we all seek....
Hopefully I'll be known for being the Little Newbie That Could.
Could what? Start the hobby on an anorexic budget while keeping pristine water conditions in largely experimental ponds with the eventual outcome being the establishment of an Ochiba Shigure breeding program that contributes some of the strongest lines of Ochiba, the likes of which will make you weep for the beauty of them.
High hopes, huh. But if I can pull it off, I'll be known for that.

I think the fact that we are on a limited budget, gets us to learn a bit more and a bit more cautiously. We all know that we cant buy fish with the "Big Dogs", but we share as hell learn like the "Big Dogs"....

Ain't that the truth, Tonio. *S* Every step I take, I tread cautiously, soaking in knowledge (and trivia) like a sponge as I go, because I know mistakes do not go unpunished and the fish pay for my mistakes. And with the SVC regulations newly out, I can't afford to lose any of my koi for fear of never being able to monetarily replace them.

I think the fear of SVC regulations is getting blown way out of proportion. There will be more Koi available than anyone can handle. It is NOT going to create a supply and demand issue where Koi become too expensive for the average person. Think about it, there are NO import bans on countries that are SVC free and the ones that are not only have to show a two year history of being SVC free. So for some there may be a two year lag, some may go out of business but there will always be more to replace them.
