Most parasites are visible at 100x. Costia is better at 400x. Often times its not a matter of the magnification itself, but the actual quality of the optics. typically higher magnification values have higher quality optics so a scope with 40x to 1600x may well be much better at 400x than a scope that goes from 10x to 400x, at 400x

Makes sense to me. I just thought since I am out in the bonnies it is a good investment. A koi and a microscope for christmas.

Mike, you are "spot on." The Microscope is probably the single best investment for a koi hobbyists. It wasn't long ago that it was hard finding a hobbyist with one, Now its hard to find one without one! Now that is progress in teaching/learning.
