Kevan: Those are Mat's "homebreds"....100% U.S. domestics (from Japanese-bred parents). Mat is doing in the U.S. what Maurice is doing in the U.K. Creating his own lines, but very much based on the best Japanese genetics he can get.

thanks Mike,

that last sanke really is rather special, would love to follow the progress of this koi
does Matt have a website?

the USA appears to have some very good breeders...

1. Richard in Claifornia (AKA fish maker on ebay)(good kohaku, sanke and ogon)
2. lotus land koi (good showa) good website
3. nisei koi farm (Matt) (good sanke, showa, gin rin showa)but a little expensive for some

the uk so far have
1. UK koi (good chagoi)
2. Cuttlebrook fish farm(nice chagoi and shusui)
3. koi water barn fish farm, koi water farm (good chagoi)
4. English koi, from the English Koi farm (kohaku and showa)
5. new forest koi (quality not so good but cheap)

kb.

I have tried posting pics that I know I have not posted before, but no go. It shows I still have reached my disk space limit, so I do not know what is causing my problem. No problems uploading photos on other sites, so I don't think it is my firewall. Anyway, since I can't post new photos, I try links to photos I posted in the past. Here is my sanke coming out of the mud last fall as a sansai. She went back into Mat's largest mud pond. I am hoping she will really give Mat a workout lifting her out next month.

Kevan, it's about time you showed us some of these 'English Koi', as we know you are the breeder!

Maurice.

Here is my showa tosai I got last fall. She (hopefully) showed a lot of potential. Will it be "oooohhs and aaaahs" when it comes out of the mud or "uuugh"?

Henry, I think that's a great example of buying the red and betting on the black. With a nice menware, that face will be a knock-out. You do have a little Kohaku, also, don't you?

I've got two other tosai growing out, but no photos on the home computer. I hope I have them at the office.

Hi Maurice,

my farm is currently my own private concern and not a public one just yet.

i set out to breed the very best gosanke(particually kohaku) and nothing less will do, i have a definite goal for the way my koi look, and very specific breeding/bloodline methods are used to achieve my goal, these are currently a secret.

i have created more of a new bloodline with distinct features that i personally look for in kohaku, rather than just nice large koi to sell, as the japanese already do this very well. however i do personally feel on the whole that Japanese Koi and the bloodlines can be improved greatly.

i intend to enter my koi at the larger sizes and not show them before. one of the reasons for this is that i want my koi to be different and that my goals will clearly be seen, where if i start releasing pics of tosai etc then others will get a feel for the look before they are ready and before they would have a chance of making any great impact.

another 2-3 years will be required...be patient.

any other breeders from the uk?...

i can think of `new forest koi`...anyone else?

on the whole i am expecting the `Koi Water Barn` to make the biggest impact in the UK in terms of combined scale and quality, i have seen their opperation and it really is stunning.
