Rick--my fault. I was told the results were up, and I assumed the photos were with the paper description. I will see the photos come up so everyone can enjoy them. We had some really nice fish at the show.
One of the fish I brought was an Asagi which was a gift from Dick Benbow as a little guy last year. (No pressure THERE!!) Thanks for the kind words, Dick. I, like you, was shocked that the fish measured into size 5. I am really liking how the body is developing so far.
Joyce Tsuji gave it the President's award--because people tend to like pretty asagis. However, like other mostly wild fish, "Blue" is a nightmare to net, and spent a good portion of the show trying to launch out of the tank. Once, the fish wranglers had to rescue Blue off the pavement outside the tank at the show--but a close examination once I got home luckily showed not a scale out of place, no broken jaw, no abrasion whatsoever. I have really enjoyed watching this fish evolve. Dick, I can't thank you enough for the pleasure I have had in raising this one so far.
My big Sanke (see photo in Danjols mail above) "should been a contenda" for GC at this show, since she is 27.5 inches long and fairly spectacular. Unfortunately, she "caught cold" at the show and had a little white effect on the big hi plate by her head. She's from Sakai Fish Farms in Hiroshima, and the head judge at the show was.....Ken Sakai. He was not about to award one of his own fish the GC when it was not up to snuff on the day. He was right, of course. He treated her after the show with bee propilis, which I thought was interesting.
Both of these fish will spend the next year in my greenhouse pond, which should be finished in the next month. I have decided to use polysteel panels (for insulation--am building this thing on a mountainside), filled with concrete, with Tim Zuber spraying polyurea over the top. So far, I have the concrete in, but am getting photos along the way to put up so you can check out the process, if you are interested.
