Tips For Catching Small Koi Safely And Quickly

HI

I currently have a mass of small koi and common carp in my pond that i want to remove and was wondering if anyone had any tips for moving them quickly and safely as apposed to me just trying to get them to swim into a net

You can try substantially lowering the water level. You can also try using food to bait them to your capture area.

Good luck, 'cause netting the little guys usually involves lots of trickery and patience.

Seine Net!

my recommendation would be to get or make a seine net and then corner the Koi at one end of the pond for easier removal.

If they're small, you will never get them all without completely draining the pond. You can thin them down with dip nets, seines, cast nets, minnow traps, etc.

We removed 100+ Nissai Ki Matsuba from a friends pond last week. 18,000 gallon pond we drained down to about 30" deep. Took 2 of us about 3 hours to catch them all, and we still missed a couple.
