Adding your own "Probiotics" to your paste mix.

Was kind of curious if this product can be used in any paste mix.

Anyone tired this yet? or Made their own Saki food....

Probiotics is bacteria that aids in the digestion, it help breakdown the food alot better so it can be absorbed better. aka Sakai Hikari.

Hey Tony, I know what probiotics are, I want to know what the product you posted is. What is in it specifically. When we came back from the All-Jaoan Show we brought back some probiotics for adding to food but, to be honest, I have been leary of adding it in to my food.

Feedback PLEASE!

I've asked around about this several times without much luck. I was thinking in terms of lactobacillus from live yogurt culture (fresh) rather than powder form, but in any case I'm curious to get an answer.
I've stumbled on to a few people in passing who've used yogurt as a base for paste food but no real scientific feedback.

Came across this thread while I was lurking among some of the archived stuff... I was a little surprised that it didn't get much attention! I'm bumping it to see if it will generate some action!

So, if you were to add probiotics to koi food, making your own version of Saki-Hikari, what would be the best and most effective way of doing so? Hopefully the method would be less expensive than buying Saki-Hikari!

Yoghurt!

Whilst in Japan last April, I was invited to spend some time with some of the executive members of ZNA - at the end of one fancinating day, we ended up at the Managing Directors home...where he and two of his ZNA colleagues proceeded to show me and my friends exactly how they produced some of their own koi food...which I have since often (once a week) duplicated for my own fish, - I interspersed the homemade Japanese recommended diet with a combination of Hikari Sakai Growth and Hikari Sakai Colour pellets.

Additionally, of course - I feed a variety of veggys and other foods. Remember, we are dealing with a omnivorous fish, which enjoys the variety of foods fed them. And, with a quality filter system in top operation, you need not worry about the water, as the system you have maintaining your water should be equal to the task of what you feed your fish.

If not, that is something you need to resolve first...don't you agree?

I can tell you this - my fish are huge, healthy and colourful. Deep black. Clear whites.

Important to the subject above is - the basic ingredient of the Japanese receipe is yogurt...which as you know is a pro-biotic.

I also feed yogurt to my four show dogs. And, I have a spoonful or more, myself - every day. As does my beautiful wife, Sheila.

Is it harmful, certainly not. Is it good for you...and, yourself, it is quite simple to find out, just review the hundreds of studies made over the years to learn more about the benefits of yogurt...

Incidentally, always purchase it without fruit, unsweetened and without flavouring...that is a must.

With my best wishes,

Hug's

Tony,
Back in the Philippines there's a JAPANES company that sells a product called YAKULT for human consumption. It's a drink packed in small plastic containers. They are saying that it contains live lactobacilli shirota strain.

I'm glad this one finally came back around.
I have tried a little yogurt in our fry food concoction this year and while I don't have any science to go along with my observations I can definitely say they like it. At roughly 10 weeks they are mostly running 2"-4" in length and no pot bellies.

Lee A. I'd be interested to know a little more detail on your basic recipe for future reference if you don't mind sharing.

The form the additive comes in is important also. I find that powders and pills(which I can grind) work well. I also use liquid vitamin E and liquid clove oil. I'm not sure how well yogurt would mix with the powders and liquids I already use. I used to get Igarashi's crab powder. I'd like to find a substitute for it.
