I'll let others comment on prize-winning potential at any particular show. Goromo should have a clean white base for the best contrast. This one has the gray base rising of Goshiki. I have seen similar ones listed by some dealers as "Goshiki Goromo". If Goshiki and Goromo are classed together at a show the benching team will not be challenged to decide. Against Goromo, the lack of a clean white base would go against this fish; and against Goshiki the absence of the brilliant reds we expect in Goshiki would weigh against it. From an educational point of view, I think this would be a wonderful fish to have at a show. But, then, I often get as much enjoyment from the koi that do not win a prize as from those that do.

Mike is right, and I do not think it is ready to show. If you want to take it to see what would happen as a learning experience, then show. You might pick up some good information on it.

if I was to quess as to who bred it it would be toshio sakai....this is typical of his goshiki-goromo as he bred it to display both traits.

if I can speak honestly about how i feel about showing koi if your not sure,,,,

it's like the trout fisherman that hooks a fish deeply and would like to let it go but is afraid it "won't make it"....I can gurantee that if you kill it, it's dead......showing koi while learning is much the same to me....if you don't take it, you'll never know how it did. Judges often will have a walk about sunday after the show and talk about koi and their choices. they can't talk about something's that's not there!

good luck with your koi and your learning...remember this is the fun part of the hobby...it's the journey...not the destination....

Would have to see the fish in person to assess the conformation. From the pic ozutsu(tail joint) is very weak. Fish looks to be carrying eggs, I would probably leave it home. My reason this is Shinkokai Judge would rate the conformation very low....plus if this blows all the eggs in the show tank it will be a mess...JMHO....Budo goromo goshiki....

I'm with Tony

I was thinkng along the same lines as Tony when I got to his post. A nice looking fish in some ways, but at least in the picture the body confomation looks out of proportion. Long, slender head; thick midsection (bulging); followed by a narrow tail tube. Blowing the eggs (assuming it's female of course) might make it look better, but not until the mess is cleaned up
