One year apart photos, changes galore!

In the fall of 2004 Sharon purchased this Showa at the Matsunosuke Auction, we imported her late that fall. This year we gave her a whirl at Portland's show, won Tategoi award. Wish I had taken a better photo, but you can see how much she has changed. When purchased 2004, she measured 14 inches and this year July 2006, 23 inches. Notice how much the sumi has come up!

Looking good.... You must know how to take care of her well....
Yes, sumi is excellent, but seems like the hi is changing to different tone? Am I correct?

One of Sakai San's new showa line fish. Very interesting! I think I have some pictures of some of the siblings? I'll see if I can dig them up. JR

JR, you are correct, this showa is one of Sakai San new style showa he is working on. You will notice the Sumi is close to a blue black. Sharon has a couple others as well that are changing dramatically as they grow larger.

We also have a couple in our "study koi" group we are learning from in our pond, Dick has one of them in that batch. Oct. 7th we will be pulling them from the pond to take pictures, measurements and discuss what we see changing from this Spring when we received them from Toshio. Dick and I are looking forward to this, for we are conducting one or our ongoing workshops for the local koi kichi's pond side that day as well.

Yes, we are quite pleased with the growth of our koi. They are kept in a system that contains 36,000 gallons plus. The pond is a rectangle 45 ft. by 12 ft. with a sloped bottom from 5 1/2 ft to 9 ft. Filter system composed of a large swirl separator (vortex) 6 ft in diameter to a cone shaped bottom 8 1/2 ft deep. From the separator to a large chambered filter and then to a bead filter, heater and UV light. Several returns along the bottom of the pond with two large 3 inch returns at the top. There is a continuous feed of fresh water from our well system, constant water change at about ten percent per week. So, our koi grow big, we are really pleased with the system. I have tried to upload a picture, but system seems to fail right now. I will try to upload a pic later.

I received, three weeks ago, 12 of Sakai's new showa line. The sumi is stunning!

Russ, why are there no more koi for sale on the PSKoi website? Saving the best for local customers I see
