Smile Hello!

Hi! I thought I'd speak instead of just lurking about. I am an amateur koi farmer. I have a lake up in the mountains with only my koi in it. I've been working on developing a strain of kujaku/ kawari/ asagai. Nice koi, no pond puppies please. I wish I could afford good gosanke, but then I'd hate to see a two thousand dollar koi munched by a raccoon.... Thanks

Welcome aboard Jade Lake Girl! Sounds like an interesting project you have going. Any pics of your koi to share?

Yes, please post anything you might have, as it sounds like a fun project. Pictures are always appreciated.

small fry

Like most people who are nutty about their fish, I have LOTS of pictures. Getting good pictures is more problematic when you are trying to get your fish to pose in large quantities of water. I have a pretty good zoom lens and a few fairly decent pictures.
The lake is 200' x 75' tear drop shaped, lots of shallows, but 20-35 ft. deep by the dam. Volume varies seasonally, I'm guessing between 300,000 and 750,000 gallons.

I fished out a baby from one of the stock tanks & bowled him for pictures last night, lets see if I can attach it. I'd like to know what some of you think it will look like in the future. The moto in the pectoral fins is more visible to the eye than in the pictures. Pretty small for 16 weeks, he'd have been eaten for sure in the lake if I hadn't hatched him at home.

Could you try to post some pictures of the lake?

Lake pics

the lake is about a half a mile from the farm lane by foot path up the side of the hill, so nobody bothers it much. Too much trouble to get too. I didn't want any old person to be able to drive up there and dump blue gill and beer cans in my koi pond!

You have avoided the beer cans, yep, but bluegills may walk in on their own. Probably the sparkly one would have been eaten, yep you're right, but there is a good possibility that in the weeds are many fry that escaped the jaws of the hungry. Do you get to make the walk in to feed every day?

Talking Thank You!

I really enjoyed seeing the pictures. It reminds me of being in Japan and it has stirred up an eagerness to go that I have not felt in a while.

Russ

I too saw the same thing as you. Brings back found memories and whets the appetite. Only two weeks left - This WILL be a trip that neither of us will ever forget!!
