Harvest Time at the Nisei Koi Farm

thanks for the weather report.....winds make the plane bounce a lot....well even the yellow brick road had it's challenges....Mr "C" (henry) is good about posting so I'm sure you guys will get lots of pics on the event.....

The Florida contingent arrive today, MikeM, Martin Wilcox and myself. Spent the day wandering the farm and viewing the Koi that have already been harvested.

Mat and Ross spent the afternoon grading some harvested Koi. A few very nice tategoi will be in a silent auction this weekend. All female and very tempting! My photos don't do them justice.

The weather threatened off and on all day, but the Koi gods were good to us today (especially MikeM, more on that later). In the morning Mat and Ross harvested a tosai to nissai pond.

The first of MikeM's great day, but the best was still to come.

Mat measured each and determined their sex. This time of year the best way for him to determine sex is to feel the leading ray of the pecs. The second photo is the morning harvest.

After a great catered lunch and a lot of discussion over the morning harvest, it was back out to the mud ponds. The afternoon harvest was the #1 sansai pond. Their were some pretty tall Koi swimming around.

Then came all the oohs and ahhs as they came out of the mud.

Mike gets the first look at his sanke. Last year, he asked Dick and I to pick out a Koi for him. Mike was to say the least, a bit happy with the result. Dick and I were relieved that we did him right.
