Out of the mud in Ontario

Hello everyone
This past weekend we attended our friends annual pond harvest - was a rainy cold weekend and only a handful of us 'koi diehards' chose to brave the weather LOL

His collection includes koi from Matsunosuke and Momotaro. Here are a few settling into their indoor winter home.

The indoor pond, 5000 gallons

Kind Regards,
Terri

The showa (1st pic) is Matsunosuke- and koromo also he said. I believe all the sanke shown are Momotaro as well as the kohaku.

Kind Regards,
Terri

To be honest, not sure...? It's just over 1 acre long, about 80/90 feet at the widest point, deepest is 12 feet, shallowest is 5ft - average I think is 8ft but only because I believe the pond needs to be re-dragged - hasn't been done in a few years.

He hadn't even heard of koi when he dug this pond, it was stocked with sunfish, minnows, and goldfish originally (he's still trying to rid the pond of the minnows!)... he's a portrait/wedding photograhper and this pond is one of his many 'back-drops' I think it's only been the past 5 years he's seriously been bitten by the koi-bug.

The indoor pond is a great example of using rocks and plants for a koi pond. Nice room arrangements for the winter!

are you sure? unless my eyes playing trick on me or I misunderstood what you meant but from the two pictures of goromo and kohaku, it looks like the indoor pond has rocks on the bottom.

Yes there are some 'rocks' there, this is actually the waterfall spill way into the main pond. Mostly it's just lavarock and a handful of river stone. In the kohkau pic you can see where the spillway ends and drops off into the pond.

The whole pond itself is concrete block and coated with an epoxy finish, the rock edging was added afterwards... the location of this pond is inside a greenhouse which was built around the pond during construction.
