| Thank You To The Koi Bito Family A special thanks to all the special people on the Koi Bito Forum. On October 12 I lost my wife Kathleen in a terrible automobile accident that happened while she was driving to work. My friend Mike Pfeffer posted news of it here and many members of the forum, some I know and many that I don't, posted comments of their grief and sharing my sorrow. Thank all of you for your concern and prayers. Thanks also to Dinh, who started collecting money from Koi Bito forum members in order to send flowers for her funeral. I saw where DCNY (Dan), Woodyaht (Chris), KoiCop (Don) and others contributed money toward sending flowers. Eventually, instead of flowers, Dinh sent a contibution to the Ronald McDonald House here in Lexington. I received a letter from the RMH this week confirming they had received the donation from the Koi Bito group. Kathleen volunteered at the RMH for over 20 years.... transporting family back and forth to hospitals, cooking meals for the residents, assisting the managers and helping in any way she could. Kathleen had a passion for helping others and was a long time volunteer to many charities and programs in our city, The Florence Crittenden Home for Unwed Mothers, The Lexington Junior League and many others. She donated both her time and money to the causes she believed in. We often wondered where she got the time and the energy. Her reputation has encouraged others to continue her legacy of giving. Kathleen worked as the assistant to the director or racing at the Keeneland race course, the thoroughbred track here in Lexington. At the featured stakes race two days after her death, have a look at this story to find out what happened. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/.../1037/SPORTS08 Many other people have sent money to Keeneland to add to the fund that Martin Swartz started. Today, Keeneland issued this press release: http://www.keeneland.com/news/pressdetail.asp?PID=2135 I am humbled by the genuine concern and generosity of the people in the Koi Bito family and the people who knew and worked with Kathleen. She is no longer with us to go out and do the work she did to help others, but the fund in her name will annually award money to the programs she cared so deeply about. Again, thank all of you here. | Dale As the old saying goes, "What goes around, comes around". Your wife was obviously a very special person. Nice to see caring and giving people get recognized for their efforts and energy. Deepest Sympathy and Best Wishes for the future Mike |
