QT with bakki showers.....

Have you ever seen a QT with bakki showers? Here is my friend David T's
new Q-tank set up that he just finished built getting ready
for his new arrivals from Japan. Two half feet in the ground for insulation
and one feet above ground with two small towers of bakki showers.
The bacteria house media and the water are from his existing ponds

Enjoying....

Shouldn't the new arrivals have a friend or two waiting for them?

Dinh, is David planning on covering the pond? Because if he thinks the showers will help maintain the pond temp he might be wrong especially with a 1000W heater.

for QT, I would agreed. showers lost a lot of water due to warm temp and heat if not cover. imo, the regular filter works better for QT tank. it's just for a few weeks quarantine. I would stick with convention filter media such as japanese mats or some other submersible media. it's easier to cover the whole thing too.

btw, it take awhile for the media in the showers to kick in unless it's old media from the existing pond. so make sure everything works before put in the new arrivals.

I setup my QT tank with half water from existing pond and half new water. the filter media came from the existing pond as well. it's like instance established QT setup

I think that looks like a great set up for the QT. Cute little bakki all nice and enclosed!

The first bakki I built was in miniature for my 50 gallon QT for tosai. I drove it with a 500gph pump running through 4 activated charcoal stuffed filter pads of a modified biowheel hang-on-the-side aquarium filter and into the shower. Media was feather rock. I've never had cleaner, more perfectly balanced water quality in such an overencumbered QT in relation to the fish load I put it under. Ever.

Is the bakki the only filtration you have for your QT, or is there a mechanical filter in use to catch up the fines?

I agree with Tony. Knowing who's pond this is this looks like a small QT and new residents to a QT love to Jump and try to walk home. I would definately cover the pond to trap the heat and koi at the same time...
