Brutuscz,
How could anyone tell you it won't hurt goldfish? It's one of the things it's famous for? It kills goldfishwithout pardon and horribly slowly. New laws in England mean all koi meds are to be strickly regulated and many of the standard treatments will become impossible for koi keepers in the UK to get ahold of. Supaverm is one of these but other meds as well. you can basicly forget it as anyone selling you Supaverm is now looking at jail time if they sell it to you.

B.Scott..On koivet they specifically discuss testing it on koi/goldfish hybrids. Lets just say my results differed greatly from theirs. I did research it first...lot of good it did me. Lost my favorite kujyaku dammit!!!

I won't touch the stuff!!! I too have read the horror stories of its use along with fish "failing" months after it's use with no other apparent reason for death. I'd rather spend the money and use Prazi or, with stubborn cases, Malathion instead. Fenbenzinol (sp) is another I've used with success with no apparent side effects. I've also requested that my dealer not use superverm on any fish he is bringing in for me. I would glady supply him whatever Prazi he might need to treat my new fish.

Brutuscz,
Thats one of my gripes with KV and the Big Vet. It's common knowledge that it kill GF and GF/Koi hybreds. The dosage he reccomends is too strong and if I recall correctly he also reccomends a repeat dose. That is another no-no with Supaverm.

When using Supraverm, an accurate pond volume is also very highly reccomended. Supaverm is a suspention. It therefore critical that the solution is well shaken before use. Failure to do so can result in the death of your fish. After use a large water change is also warrented on the 4th or 5th day.

I have used it and never had trouble I can directly relate to superverm it self. But like Steve E, I share doubts on the long term effects that supaverm may pose to my fish and have therefore stopped using it. In the future I will use Flubenol instead.

I don't think Supaverm in itself is as much a problem as the misinformation surrounding it and lack of accurate pond volumes of the people using it!

Exactly my point!! Very touchy product to use off lable on our fish with too many questions surrounding it's use. Often this product is purchased in bulk by the distributer and then divided up into sellable size containers. Who's to say it's shaken well enough and continually as they repackage it? There are just too many variables in its use which causes me to stay away from it. I think I've also read that in England some keepers are starting to feel the same way and trying to document their experiences.

Nancy you can get Fenbendazole at Agri-Med. It is very similar to flubinol. I don't believe you can get flubinol in the US. This is a very similar product. Here is the web site. This is what I keep on hand and it works well.

One of the problems with superverm is that it has to be redistributed into smaller bottles. If its not consistently mixed in process, then it is distributed into these containers with some bottles be stronger while others are weaker. The next thing is, this stuff should be rolled to mix, not shaken. The air mixed into while shaking can throw the whole off as well. Too much, burned fish, not enough, not going to do the job. Then toss in the fact it is gallon specific med and you got a real mess! Nasty stuff!

Brutus, I'm sorry you lost fish, goldfish hybrids or no, that alone would have thrown me off not using it. It isn't worth the risk weather its goldfish or hybrid. I do not advocate superverm and the more I see of these problems cropping, the more I advocate prazi use instead.

There are still folks who claim their goldfish are just fine... well, I still won't advocate its use period be it koi or goldfish or both. But you all have to realize that you take a risk with any medication, they all have side effects to them. Then toss in the fact that someplace down the road more are likely to show. Let me just point out here that how many years was some of those wonder drugs heaped on folks that made them happy normal folks for a few years only to have the drug reverse itself and folks went "postal"? Chloramine T can burn also...

So a lot of folks say Mela is useless... well, the key word is antibacterial, its not going to stop whats already there! Theres a time and place for anything, and proper use of. So when I read something that say's persay its toxic to goldfish, hybrids come into that category also. Lean to the side of safety and caution I say. What works for one person, may well not work for the next and for the person following after could well spell disaster! Make sense?

B.Scott, with all the problems we have been seeing of late, most of us are not advocating its use, however, in some country's its either superverm or Chloramine T, or choice of the two, that is available and most of us go out of our road to make sure the poster knows what can happen! Its a catch 22 if you follow me on that.

I bought the supaverm from a very reputable koi dealer. I mixed it like crazy, knew my gallonage, and followed the directions exactly. I'm a doctor...so I fully realize the ramifications of medications. I just never expected to see the results I had after reading so many good things. I will stick with prazipro and quick cure(formalin/mal green) in the future. That combo has worked wonderfully for me with no side effects. I will never get over the loss of that kujaku...it was truly outstanding.
