koisrus, i think it's a very nice fish. i absolutely love that kind of transparancy in the skin. i have a kohaku like that, but i think the skin's getting "harder" and less translucent over the last year + due to my water condition/keeping skills.

thanks Mike!

all I need to do now is to remember my wife's bday and our anniversary date. Maybe I purchase two koi on these two dates to help me remember.

one thing about koi hobby is that if you can afford to purchase the fish that you'd love to watch swimming in your pond, it's priceless.

this fish look very nice so my guess is that it probably command a high premium.

KoisRus-

It looks to me like many of the posts here have backed up the fact that your freind has blown a wad of cash on a beautiful fish. Now if it was your husband, remember you get half. If it was your wife, remember you're lucky she married an ugly guy. If it was just your poor guy buddy, did his grama die or something? If you are wondering if he has a good koi eye and has made a wise choice, the opinions are split with some heavy weight on the nay side. I like this fish and its fancy pattern, (can't see much else for sure), and look forward to a time when a fish purchase like this could make sense to me.

Bottom tub, 12 o'clock high. Is that what you would call a barrell full of money???

This fish has real possibilities. I don't know the fish, but from the pic the white is outstanding. The Beni-I want to see it in person. The scales .At $1000 it might be a great fish. A bit steep for a begineer unless money is no object. Take a trusted friend and go take a look.

Are you sure you arent a dealer?

Your name is a bit funny for a hobbyist, Kois R Us?
If you are a dealer looking for apprasials and what not, I dont know what to say. But if you are a hobbyist wanting to know a thing or two about your koi, welcome!
Sorry it was bothering me a bit.

I would think that a fish like this would need at least a year to be prepped for show conditions, don't you?!?
Well, I have spent many years studying "conditioning". This type of Kohak realisticly with this type of pattern doesnt do well in Show, regardless of condition. The overall quality is good now, but to fore see the next year is very cloudy. In the hands of an average hobbyist the conformation will become like a football, I know this because I have raised Kohaks with the same type conformation. In the hands of a seasoned hobbyist it will be alot of work especially trying to keep up conformation and beni quality.

This is a Kohak from Hosokai? I would not buy Kohak from a breeder who was known for Kohak before and is better known for Asagi now. That means the breeder concentrates more on stuff that is his bread and butter, which is Asagi. It is like me goin to Momotaro and asking if they have Asagi.

Plus that body type conformation is one that I am not looking for a bright future. I might be 100% wrong in this fish and I have been wrong before.
