How would you rate this Kohaku

Hi,
My friend just sent me this picture of this kohaku. I think it is very nice, he said that it just arrived from Japan. I would like your opinions on it, since I am new to the hobby, I want to make sure it is as good as he said. Please tell me what you think of it, and what would you pay for it.

picture hard to see enough

That picture is hard for me to tell... It looks interesting, but I'd like to see a different picture. It would be nice to see a closer view of the scales, too.

look like PSKOI's fish. I could be wrong but too much similarity, see http://koi-bito.com/forum/attachment...4&d=1162968574

Steve: Your memory is impressive. If not the same fish, there was an unusual genetic coincidence.

I believe this is a two year old (Nisai) about 18-20" in length and female. Quality is extremely high and in person is a real knockout. Price: probably around $2500. This is my personal opinion based on current pricing standards in my area.

Ooops!! Sorry folks, I was thinking of the fish in the top of that picture. Not sure the asking price on this one for sure!!

If you are just starting out in the hobby, I would suggest learning more before making a purchase of that magnitude. I personally would not pay that much for that kohaku. And if I had to ask others what they thought and what they would pay for it, then I would not buy. When you are spending that kind of money on a fish, you should be able to tell if it is worth the asking price, and not depend on someone else or a dealer to tell you. Just my thoughts. Hope to see you post more in the future, perhaps you can go and read some of the old threads, and get some valuable information on learning, what quality is and confirmation and then patterns.
Enjoy your journey

Wait, I found it!

Here is Shoichi Hosokai talking about his best Nisai Koi. The Koi in the tub were all top quality. See if you can see the Kohaku.

I studied the picture of the Kohak for awhile, honestly it bothers me. Do get me wrong but I have had my fair share of Kohaks in many different qualities. I wouldnt say this is the best I have ever seen in this size class. If I measure this Kohak to my male Kohak that passed on, there is no comparision. I have raised some fish in my time and I tend to pass on fish of this complex pattern regardless of the quality or not.

Tony

You're comparing a freshly arrived fish's conformation with a fish that you spent how many years growing and bulking out to condition for a show. It's apples and oranges IMHO. Fish, when harvested, usually don't get fed much if at all before being purchased/shipped. I would think that a fish like this would need at least a year to be prepped for show conditions, don't you?!?
