Nitrites, Brown blood disease and salt

Who knows the exact salt dose to combat brown blood disease from nitrites?
Let me say that I know that the salt ion interferes with nitrites in such a way so that o2 can be assimulated propery by fish, what I'm not sure of is at what level the scales tip. Does anyone know and are there any scientific that support the dosage?
Thanks,
Jim

The amount of salt required depends on the amount of nitrite present. The concentration of chloride ions in the salt needs to be higher than the nitrite concentration. Multiply the salt concentration by 0.6 to get the chloride concentration. 1 ppm nitrite requires >1.65 ppm salt. In other words, not very much salt is needed.

Typically, 0.1 percent salt will take care of the level of nitrite you may have in your pond. And yes, what Bekko said is correct.

Thanks Steve and Mike,
My new pond w/5yr old media has been handling the ammonia just fine, however because of the colder temps the nitrite conversion is slow to nil. This follows what has been my experience over the yrs i.e. that the nitrite bac is much more cold sensitive and is the first to go dormant, when subjected to the cold, and last to recover, when temps increase.
So in your formula, a salt meter that reads .05%, translates to 50ppm and should protect to 30.30ppm nitrites? Is this correct or is that to many zeros?

Too few zeros me thinks. 0.05% equals 500 ppm.
