I really, don't see how cookies, beer, pizza could even come close to making a good dealer. I must say even though I am new. That honesty was my reason for buying my new showa, Kevan(Genki Koi). Took so much time with me, he explained why I should not buy the showa, I had first admired. He said that if I wanted to show koi, which I may down the road, then I needed to learn what makes a fish better than the next one.. He could have sold me a fish for more money, than I actually spent. But he understood my goals. So for that I will say that he is in my opinion the most honest dealer in Norcal, that I have dealt with. And honesty works for me.

Do you also not see the other reasons koisrus? I believe I said 2 along with cookies. Those other 2 reasons are the real reasons. Usually when someone says something like beer, pizza and cookies they are joking.
I am happy you too have found your dealer, I have found mine.

Did you really think this was a serious statement!!??

I must say even though I am new. That honesty was my reason for buying my new showa, Kevan(Genki Koi). Took so much time with me, he explained why I should not buy the showa, I had first admired. Absolutely correct!! That's what he should have done if you are new to the hobby. It's called building a relationship with the customer. Standard practice for an "honest" dealer!!

He could have sold me a fish for more money, than I actually spent. But he understood my goals. So for that I will say that he is in my opinion the most honest dealer in Norcal, that I have dealt with.

How many of the dealers here in the Bay Area have you PERSONALLY dealt with? There are a few more that fall into this category. I've known them personally for many years and their ethics standards are very high as well.

And honesty works for me.
Seems to be the common thread for continuing to do business with any dealer !!

Nicely said, and you did a good job defending the other breeders/Dealers in this region, discovered and undiscovered.

Whoa fellas!!! I think you guys are reading too much into koisrus posts. Koisrus said "most honest"...thats an opinion and they didn't say anyone was dishonest.

So back to the original question. I think honesty, track record, service and availability are the most important to me. Another thing I like is a good koi selection in varying price ranges . I only buy from two dealers now and I make no secret about who they are (just check my website). With that said, in the last year I have been to Mystic, Easterns, Genki, Champion, nameless, Vienna Aquarium, Quality Koi, Nishikigoi of Niigata and spoken with MANY others at shows. With the exception of the nameless one they all were very honest and quite frankly I would buy koi from a couple of them except I'm happy with the two I use so I'll stick with them.
