The Arcen situation is almost the exact opposite, where excess entrants require a totally different solution. Personally I felt that the Kawari2 rules needed to be amended. This year we had Kigois and Ki-Ochiba in Kawari1 when it would have been better to put kigoi in Kawari2 and take Ochiba-Shigure and put it back in Kawari1. Keeping patterned and plain apart.

Now that you have reminded me about that, I shall pass on my recommendations to the Voorzitter and Team Asia when they return from Thailand at the end of the week.

Hoi Bern,

The Kawarimono category is very divers. As with the Chagoi, Soragoi and Ochiba Shigure in the past, other varieties tend not to be entered into the show because the owners know they will have a hard time winning anything. It would be great for KK to see some of the older varieties as Kigoi, Karasu, Hajiro entered into the show. But without any chance of winning, I don't see this happening anytime soon. So a change or division in Kawarimono could help. But I realize full well that it's difficult to change the rules. Besides the conservatism among KK and slow pace of bureaucracy within an organisation where would you draw the line?

Tot ziens,

Ray

More importantly, how many more tanks would a show need! LOls

Populist judging in the USA is now going to give the public more legitimate longfin presence. Personally, I feel this 'third rail' of the garden pond hobby is a perfect example of why judges have a responsibility to hold the line on trends of the moment- or at least to keep them in proper perspective. Once the genie is out of the bottle on feel good and interpretive judging/benching decisions, we may never find our way back.
Words have meaning- kawari is a word, and it has a meaning, both gentically and pheno typically. Stop the madness. JR
