looks like quite a few interesting subjects!

as you post the individuals pictures would be anxious to know size in and size out average, would give me an idea of where you should be at this stage so I could comment...

one thing interesting to me, shintaro in japan put the same stocking rate into new ponds double in size of his former ones ( he lost a bunch in the earthquake ) and the results were unbelieveable for growth. If I hadn't seen it documented I honestly wouldn't have believed it....

another coupla years from now you'll have to get some stylish waders for your daughter (maybe pink or purple ) Good help is hard to find!!!!! LOL

I left the fish alone today so they could rest. Me too! Promise late tomorrow night to have the first of the pics online. I'll post the sizes of the fish in each picture along with my best estimate of the sex. The fish going in were five to six inches. I'd say the average size out was 14 to 16 inches. About average growth.

your growth rate is good. I think the emphasis needs to be put on the winter end of tosai to get the stocking size the following spring closer 8-10 inches.
That should put you into 16-19 range quite handily....

Koi #1, #2

I think you are correct Dick. I have placed the emphasis in the past on servicing the wholesale market as I worked out production issues in the mud and 2 year old fish were something of an experiment. Still are. This year the tosai tategoi will be on a faster track and should hit 10" by May. I think they they have some promise.

Here are two quick pics from today. I had the rare chance to talk to a very knowledgeable Gentleman today, who I met through Koi-Bito, about koi and eagerly sacrificed photo time to lap up every word. I love this Forum. I'll do better with the photos as I pick up some steam. Remember, the main point of this is to help Marie pick Her fish. So be critical!!!

Rich

If we're helping Marie with suggestions on only these two fish(?) then I would say #1 would be my pick. She has the facility to be able to grow a female (which I believe this fish is). I'm personally not too keen on the ozutsu but then it could be just the picture angle with the curve between the dorsal and tail that is throwing it off a bit. Otherwise, very nice fish. Good frame on the head and shoulders and midsection. Color depth also looks very good with a very thin sashi. Pattern is very nice. I don't think it will look too small as the fish grows out. Nice choice. The second fish I believe to be a male(?) Looks more finished than #1 and the beni looks a bit harder. Kiwa is definitely there and I don't see much sashi which is why I feel it's more finished at this age. Just my opinion. I hope others will chime in with their 2 cents so Marie can decide.

No no. Lots of more fish to come (hence the numbers). I'll photograph the note worthy fish and from this group I'd expect Marie could have between 25 to 40 fish to choose from. I need to get a better angle on the fish and rushed these photos, but yes Mike your assessment is spot on. My only concern is the pattern on #1 being too small for a larger frame. If the shiroji develops as it looks it will I think it will pull it off. If Marie doesn't select this one it will go back out for another year's growth.

You know, when the seine pictures were posted I downloaded them so I could play with them in Corel to look at the harvest as close as the pixels would let me. There was one that caught my eye immediately, though the view wasn't the greatest. I cropped out her image and put her on the desktop last night late to see if she'd turn up in the lineup Richard was preparing.

Gee...is that the first beauty posted or does she have a twin?

Marie
