About Breeding- what size and how to encourage?

Hi everybody. I'm new to koi keeping and to this forum. I want to consider breeding and what that would entail. I have some nice koi but was wondering, what size is big enough? And, what I can do to promote it in an indoor pond environment (and not to mention out of season)?

Thanks in advance,
Seekoi

Hey, See Koi-

I got this link, probably from here and probably from Bekko, but I don't remember.

You could try manipulating temps and day length with heaters and programmed lighting to fool your fish into thinking they were ready. Where you going to put the fry?

You could try talking nice to her if she's pretty and over 18.

Not from me Mickey, but its a nice site.

A friend of mine spawned koi every full moon for nine consecutive months in Hawaii using temperatrue manipulation alone. We never get below that magical spawning temperature of 68F, but the koi seem to adjust their environmental cues to the climate. Manipulating photoperiod is a lot more gripe, but probably helps.

Are plants inportant?

Thanks Mitten and Bekko! That was a very informative website. I really appreciate the advice too. I'm starting to see a plan. I'm going to give it a try. I'm sure there will be some trial and error, but I'm trying to minimize the error!

I like the idea of using temperature manipulation alone. I'll try that first and see if anything happens.

Do you think having some water hyacinth or other plants in there is important? Or would that be considered an alternative to the rope idea?

Thanks again.
