....and before I lurk around the boards catching up on things, here's a fairly nice koi to tease you with ...

(I believe Lee Aronfeld is the owner of this gorgeous animal.)

thanks Mike, I had given up hope to seeing any pics/info on the show. I heard Mat was sick and didn't make it. Kudos to the show comittee, and those who participated. Henry's cha growth is pretty phenomonal......

There were two koi that got everyones' attention... An awesome Dainichi Kohaku named Grand Champion, owned by Rob Nabridge. She was harvested from Ray Abell's mud pond a week ago. The volume on this huge fish was simply mindboggling:
Here is the Dianichi Kohaku from last year.

Hey Joe and Shir,
It is cheaper to have a mistress than knowing you guys.
After a few shots of sake, that Goshiki from Hiroi was irresistable.
Paula and I won a bunch of awards:
Best in variety over 26": Tancho kohaku
Best in variety 20-26" Goshiki
Best in size over 26" Kohaku
tropical koi club friendship award size 6 -over 26' Doit Ochiba
Best in size 6-over 30" sanke.
Best in size 5 2nd place tancho showa
Best in size 5 2nd place lemon hariwaki
and 2 more awards ....

I have a date with Kevin next Nov for Japan to hunt for the ultimate prize.
Naples is a fun place. Good speakers, and good fish and great people.

Luyen

I am very sorry to have to make a correction to Mike M.'s post, but the Kohaku and owner mentioned were not named as the GC. There was an error in the entry and although this was a very fine Koi and the most likely the best Koi in the show, all qualifications to enter that Koi in the show were not met and therefore was not judged. A realinement of the winners was done and a new GC chosen. That GC was a Shiro Utsuri owned by Martin Wilcox.

Sorry for the confusion. I am sure that plenty of pictures will show up from the show with all of the Koi. I will try to post a pdf of the full show winners as soon as I can, but I just got home and have a lot to do first.

I didn't get any error when trying to post the pics, I simply got kicked back to the post screen to where I started from with a blank page.

The Naples Botanical Garden was a great site for a show. With all the publicity done in Naples, there was a steady flow of people the entire weekend.

We were honored to have Bob Finnegan as our head judge. Bob was assisted by Joan Finnegan and Charles Phelps.

Our major sponsor for the show was Driftwood Garden Center. They provided some really nice Japanese lanterns and Koi garden art as our awards. The first photo is the GC and GC B awards. They are made up of 5 parts and hand chiseled from solid stone. They have to be 5 parts since altogether, the GC award weighed a few hundred pounds.
