Hi Bern, you may be confused by something I said? The ZNA was indeed the first to put on shows but due to corruption charges, shinkoikai did a JOINT or COMBINED show with the amateur's co-operation. This was the first COMBINED show as there was now a designation between professional and amateur. And the amateurs , who were wealthy customers and powerful names in Japanese society, assisted the dealers into a professional designation as they were attempting to try and control the show's outcome. But the joint plan of spreading the hobby and the business of koi still kept the two factions united towards the western world.
Years later, the professional judge would be banned from amateur competition itself, due to the reasons we see here today in America. In fact in 1971 it was realized that only amateur judges could keep the educational process pure and professionals were banned from judging at amateur shows (circa 1971).
Here is the first ever combined show GC.
